Fredericton (GNB) – Member and staff of the Voices of New Brunswick Women Consensus-Building Forum welcome the New Brunswick Women’s Council Act and are eager to continue their work as the New Brunswick Women’s Council.

“With this strong legislative framework, New Brunswick has a truly independent public advisory body on women’s equality that can work to improve the status of women in our province,” said Forum Co-Chair, Jody Dallaire.

The Act creates the Council as a modern entity with independence in the tradition of legislated public advisory bodies. The Act also changes the Forum’s name to the New Brunswick Women’s Council, as requested by the Forum’s membership.

“This Act addresses all the barriers that challenged the Forum’s ability to deliver on its mandate,” said Co-Chair Jennifer Richard. “Having now established a strong foundation for the Council, we are eager to shift our focus to addressing the issues affecting women and girls in our province.”
